Nile 2010 is an expedition of Scouts and Explorer Scouts.
In the summer of 2010, 37 Scouts and Leaders will leave
Bournemouth for almost one month to work with the Scouts of
Jinja in southern Uganda. Each Scout and Leader needs to raise
funds for the expedition; in total nearly £150,000.Over the next
two years we shall be arranging a whole host of activities to
support this target—we hope that you will be able join us on many
of them
Getting to know you

The first element of the trip will be to meet our hosts and camp with the local scouts.  Our venue is a wonderful setting high above the White Nile, only a few miles north of it’s source in Lake Victoria. There we will have a traditional camp with the local scouts.  The scout camp site will be our base throughout our stay and it is our intention to donate our camping equipment to the Ugandan Scouts when we leave.

Community Development
Our next phase will be to work with the local scouts and other charities on projects to support the nearby community.  The projects  include work on educational or community facilities.  All of our projects will help disadvantaged children. Scouting in countries such as Uganda often forms the catalyst for such development.  An example is using the teachings of the scout movement to motivate homeless children to form communities and to bring them back off the streets.

Rest and Recuperation
R&R might be a far cry from our final phase, as our activities might be anything but restful.  Travel to Uganda is rare for a British scout camp, so we must make best use of our time in this incredibly interesting country.  For this reason, we intend to offer the opportunity for all of our older scouts to undertake their Explorer Belt—a challenging series of projects and a physical endeavour that they will not forget.  We may also be able to offer other exciting activities, such as White Water Rafting as well as travelling to other parts of Uganda.
